There was a live broadcast of DND Direct today that went through some of the new things coming forward in the coming couple years.  I watched it so that you didn’t have to, and I’ll introduce some of the items that were talked about.

First off they introduced Minecraft Dungeons and Dragons!  Everyone who enjoys playing Minecraft will be looking forward to this, as I know I am.  There is a book of the monsters you will find in the game at Minecraft.net.

Next up was PlayDND.com.  This website was talked about as a place to create characters easily for games.  I still need to do a little poking around in it, but is seems to be a front end for DNDBeyond.com.

Then they introduced some footage from a Virtual Table Top they are working on.  It’s in 3d and is supposed to include all the monsters from the monster manual.  There were animated spell effects as well as animated attacks from other weapons.  It looked really good and I can’t wait to play with it!

Also there were some toys introduced to celebrate the movie and 50 years of DND also.  Yes, that’s right, next year is the 50th anniversary of Dungeons

and Dragons!  I’m hoping that we see a lot that year.  I’m actually a little surprised that they didn’t hold off on the movie for that year.

Wizkids also let us see a few things that were very interesting to me.  They are making life sized painted figures of a Mimic treasure chest and (this is my favorite) a life-size baby owlbear!  Who wouldn’t want that?!?

Speaking of the movie, they introduced some tie ins from the movie and Magic the Gathering.  Now, I don’t play Magic the Gathering, so I don’t know much about what they introduced.  However, they did show the characters from the movie as new cards for the game.

Joe Manganiello is currently working on a documentary for next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary.  He’s interviewing many people from all walks of life to showcase how it affects everyone.  This should be interesting and it’s just another one of those things I’m looking forward to watching!

They also introduced some new books that are coming out.  They didn’t say too much about them, but here’s a list of them:

So, that’s everything that I listened to, other than the few things they pushed through about the movie.  However, it wasn’t anything that everyone didn’t see in the previews already.

Looks like there’s some good stuff coming down the pipe for all the Dungeons and Dragons fans out there.  I know I’m excited about a lot of the things!
