I recently saw the new Dungeon and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie and I’d like to give my quick review of it.

To me it boils down to “Was it Fun”?  I’m happy to say it was a really fun movie with some great scenes.  I enjoyed the movie from beginning till end.  Was every scene a show stopper?  No, however enough were that it made up for everything.

The scenes with Themberchaud were great, even though I don’t think there were enough of them!  He stole the show for me and really got me going!  Speaking of show stoppers, the scene right before this with Xenk Yendar and his right was amazing!  What a great scene.

I’ll say a little about each character, just to get a little info about them:

Edgin Darvis – Chris Pine really went all in on the role of a troubled father trying to do right for his child.  Like all good plans it goes awry, but he does try.  Since he was playing a bard though, I would have liked to see him do more “bard” things.

Holga Kilgore – They went too much into her backstory in my opinion.  The movie would have been fine without that.  She was good as a barbarian though!  Very convincing.  She was a barbarian of few words, preferring to use a weapon instead.

Simon Aumar – What a sad person.  They really pushed the “I’m not so good!” only for him to become great at the last moment.  I think they could have brought him up slowly, showing him doing better rather than him all of a sudden doing better when they need it the most.

Doric – Ok, here’s where we need to suspend disbelief for the sake of story.  Yes, they are a druid who is obviously not level 20 so she should not have been able to transform into so many creatures without a long rest somewhere in there.  Just, let it go already.  This is a movie about magic and this is where you draw the line?  Let. It. Go.

I will say though that Hugh Grant’s character Forge Fitzwilliam was an annoying little worm that should have gotten more coming to him than he did.  For as much of a bad guy as he was I expected more to happen to him in the end.  That just left a bitter taste in my mouth, as if something was left unfinished.  Maybe they left him around so that he could be in a part 2?

Speaking of part 2, if they don’t carry over the gag with the undead that they were talking to I’ll be severely disappointed!  That would tie the two movies together for me and would be a little inside joke that you’d have to remember from the first film!

All in all though I’d say the movie was great.  4.5 out of 5 stars.
